Wednesday Poetry Prompts: 493 – A Rumor Poem
I only whispered
because it was embarrassing
Not because I thought it wasn’t true
It spread from there –
As embarrassing stories about others do –
With one change
My name
And the way I leaned in to whisper
Were attached to the unverified and increasingly doubted claim
I’m the villain
In the story about a rumor
When the whole time
It was free to mind my business
